Sweet Dolman Tutorial

Hi, everyone! Well, why don't we get those pretty hands of yours working, creating some lovely clothing item!

Dolman is one of the trends in fashion today. So here is our very simple and easy tutorial for you. Fun to make and super cool to wear dolman for you and your little girl!

I made this for my sister Lelanie and the measurements I will be sharing with you on this tutorial fits bust size of 86cm to 94cm.
It was easy for me since we have the same size^^

Here’s what your pattern would look like:
Lining (inner, sorry for the wrong word on the pattern) is optional. I opted for it, though. You could either line the whole dress or just the neckline.

Observe that the front side neckline is 3cm deeper than the back side.

Here are the measurements of the dolman I've made:

For the sewing procedures:

Fold this piece half-crosswise with the edges of each side meeting on the marked center.

It's like making a bias tape but only halfway. Iron and pin as necessary.

Attach it to your front piece by sewing straight stitches.

Hem your dolman pieces including your neckline lining. However if you decide to have your dolman fully lined, do not hem the pieces yet.

For the dolman line on the neckline only:
Get your main fabric pieces (both back and front pieces) and attach the sides and the shoulders by sewing straight stitches. You could further strengthen your stitches by sewing zigzag stitches or serging the raw edges of the sewn sides.
Do the same to you lining pieces.

Now, place both sewn pieces together, right sides of the fabric facing together and sew together the neckline of main fabric and lining fabric.
Then, hem the armhole and turn your dolman inside out.

If you decide for a fully-lined dolman:
Get your main fabric pieces (both back and front pieces) and attach the sides and the shoulders by sewing straight stitches. You could further strengthen your stitches by sewing zigzag stitches or serging the raw edges of the sewn sides.
Do the same to you lining pieces.

Get your main piece and lining piece and bring them together, right sides facing together, wrong sides outside. Sew the armholes together by sewing straight stitches.

Then sew together the bottom edge of your main fabric and lining leaving 3" or so unsewn so you could turn your clothing piece
Turn it inside out and sew close the unsewn opening by topstitching on your hem or sewing it close by hand if you decide not to topstitch it.
You could also topstitch your armholes and neckline or leave it as is, whichever floats your boat.

Then add a bow to embellish the denim fabric band we've sewn before. If you decide for a fully-lined dolman, attach the bow before assembling your dolman pieces.

And there you have your pretty dolman
So quick, fun, simple and very easy to make!

I hope you liked today's tutorial and that you'd be back for more next week!
